How to Prep Your Closet for the New Year

Top tips for preparing your closet when it comes to fashion-related resolutions. From decluttering, to mindful shopping.

With 2022 fast approaching, many people may have “cleaning up the closet” on their New Year’s Resolution list. You may even have “revamp my style” as a resolution! The message we always push online is that fashion is one of the best ways to express yourself to the world- and the start of a brand new year is the perfect time to begin (if you weren’t already!)

In this post, we wanted to discuss our top tips for preparing your closet when it comes to fashion-related resolutions. From decluttering, to mindful shopping… It’s time to get started on this top secret How-To list that you were lucky enough to stumble upon just in the nick of time.

GET RID OF THINGS THAT DON’T SERVE A PURPOSE.

Our first and most important tip when it comes to gearing up for a new year, new fashion moment is to purge your closet. Best way to go about this monumental task? Create piles for each reason why you may or may not get rid of something.

Start by coming up with a pile of items that you haven’t worn in the past year, followed by a pile that you haven’t worn in the last 6 months. This is a great way to figure out what items you clearly do not have an interest in using anymore.

After that, create piles for things that no longer fit, or are perhaps damaged in some way. Before you know it, you’ll have a TON of space for brand new clothes!

DEFINE YOUR IDEAL STYLE.

What words come to mind when you think of how you want your wardrobe to portray your personality? Is it funky? Girly? Perhaps, 80’s punk rock? Perhaps your personality encapsulates all of the above.

Sit down and think of how you want to show up in the world. What message do you want to speak through your fashion choices? Christa’s words of advice when it comes to choosing your ideal style is this:

"There is no such thing as one particular look for someone. Wake up and dress how you feel... Don't be afraid to experiment, you might surprise yourself. Fashion is not just what you're wearing- it's a feeling, it's a vibe."

HAVE BALANCE IN YOUR CLOSET

What do we mean by balance? Well, Alix explained it best. She says that the best rule when it comes to curating an intentional wardrobe is to balance your basics + staples with statement pieces.

For every “BAM” statement piece you own, also have 2 basic pieces that can work in a variety of ways. Although we, here at Kate Hewko, are well-known for our statement pieces we do have the perfect staples for your closet.

Basics do not equal boring, and some of these items are proof of that! Click here to check out our KH Staples: https://www.katehewko.com/collections/top-sellers

With these tips in mind, we hope that you feel armed and ready for your journey into intentional style. We want each and every one of our clients to walk into the new year with confidence, style, and pride in what they wear!

We hope you had an amazing Holiday season and have a Happy New Year.

Xx, The Kate Hewko Team
